Where Can You Find The IPSW (iPhone Software) Firmware In Your Computer

If you are not yet familiar with the term IPSW (.ipsw), it simply stands for iPhoneSoftware. And if you are a newbie or new to Jailbreaking or unlocking either your iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3G, iPad 1, iPad 2, the new iPad, iPod Touch 2G and 3G or any other Apple iDevices then I think you ought to know this little detail first. I created here a short article that will teach you where to locate or where to find these .ipsw files located on your computer.  Actually, I also had this same problem when I tried to jailbreak and unlock my friend’s iPhone 3G which is also locked to AT&T carrier.

Where Can I Find IPSW On My Computer

First and foremost, the location of an IPSW depends on what operating system you are using and it won’t be easy to find it unless you perform some tweaks on your computer. The main reason for this is that these saved IPSW file are stored on a hidden folder in your computer. So a simple Find command on your computer will usually end up with nothing in the result window.

Also, do not expect that you’ll have an IPSW file on your computer if you haven’t initiated an UPDATE or RESTORE of firmware on your Apple device through the iTunes application. The firmware is only saved into your computer once you either update or restore your device’s firmware. The iTunes application downloads the appropriate IPSW or firmware file straight from Apple server and stores it in your computer.  That is why whenever you conduct an update or restore it takes a little while longer as compared when you are doing it all-over-again on the same computer.

Before we proceed, if you are into Microsoft Windows platform then you have to unhide first the folder where this IPSW firmwares were stored.
