SMART Communications Will Be LTE And HSPA+ Ready By Mid 2012
Philippines - SMART LTE and HSPA+ Ready? This is one of the biggest news I’ve heard for this week after posting an article about Nokia Lumia 900 two days back which will be available exclusively for AT&T. I received some questions from my friends if it will be possible or if Nokia Lumia 900 would even work here in the Philippines. Unfortunately, the answer is “no” since as of now none of the local carriers here – SMART, GLOBE, SUN and many others – are not yet capable of supporting LTE or HSPA+ frequencies. However, as expected since the trend of technology is always forward and upward, I am not really that surprised to hear the big news provided by PLDT and Smart Technology Group Head Rolando G. Peña. The news he just exposed to all was that SMART Communications, Inc. (Smart) will be upgrading their entire wireless mobile network’s infrastructure to be “LTE-Ready” by June 2012 (well, he says “as early as mid 2012″).
Let us define first what does this report means by providing you the simplest definition of LTE and HSPA+. The term LTE is the acronym for Long Term Evolution. This is the fastest innovation of fourth generation (4G) wireless technology with a speed that can exceed 100Mbps. While HSPA+ is also known as High Speed Access plus that has a data speed of at most 80Mbps. Needless to say, either both of them can deliver faster connection than what we currently have. Imagine your video streaming, downloading and even surfing the Internet with either one these speed is enabled. It won’t take you that long now to access something over the Internet – as if you’re doing or accessing an offline application.

If everything goes well as planned with PLDT and Smart’s wireless network upgrade project, then we will surely enjoy these speed by mid of 2012. Moreover, if the upgrade becomes successful by mid of this year then I am pretty sure that we will see more advanced smartphone aside from Nokia Lumia 900. Will Smart offer this on their post paid and pre paid plans by that time? What do you think?
